Bourses de thèse • Université d’Amsterdam

Deux bourses de thèse sont proposées pour travailler sur la sociologie du marché de l’art des pays émergents par l’université d’Amsterdam.

•> Date limite : 27 février 2011

The AISSR and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology are looking for two PhD candidates who will participate in the research project ‘The Globalization of High Culture : How Markets for Contemporary Art Develop in Brazil, Russia, India and China’.

The PhD candidates will participate in a five-year comparative research project which is financed by a VIDI-grant of the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO). The project studies globalization of contemporary art markets from the perspective of economic and cultural sociology in Brazil, Russia, India and China. The two PhD projects will focus on the institutional architecture of art markets in these countries ; which institutions have been adopted from Western markets and how have they been transformed ? How have local institutions emerged and developed to select, market and value contemporary art ? In answering these questions, PhD project A focuses on China, PhD project B on the Russian and the Indian markets for contemporary art. A significant part of both projects will consist of on-site empirical research, collecting both qualitative and quantitative data.
